New Life Church of the White Mountains Story

New Life Church of the White Mountains is associated with the American Baptist Churches of Vermont and New Hampshire and the American Baptist Churches - USA..

New Life Church of the White Mountains (NLC-WM) began as a new church in April 2001 by Pastors Shirley and Dave Marcroft and the American Baptist Churches of Vermont and New Hampshire and American Baptist Churches - USA

Waterville Valley:  New Life Church of the White Mountains has been doing services in WV for many years.  Now NLC-WM is a full-time church in Waterville Valley and holds services each Sunday all year.

Church services are held in the "The Meeting Place" function room in Town Square.  This room has many windows which provide a inspirational view the of the beautiful mountains during worship services. During July and August, services are held outside beside Corcoran's Pond in Town Square.

During ski season, two church services are held on Sunday mornings.  One service is a Ski Service at Sunnyside Lodge on Valley Run Trail at the mountain.  The second service is an indoor service at Town Square in "The Meeting Place".

The church has an office in Town Square in Building B - 2nd level. This space is used for the pastors' office, pastoral counseling, Bible study, small group gatherings, and meetings.

How we got to Waterville Valley:  For many years, Rev. Skip Schwarz, of Loon Area Christian Ministry,  conducted Sunday worship services at the ski area in Waterville Valley.  He also had a thriving ministry at Loon Mountain and the Encore Thrift Shop in Lincoln, NH.  After 10 years in Waterville Valley, Skip passed the baton of that ministry to Pastor Shirley and New Life Church of the White Mountains.

New Life has held non-denominational church services in Waterville Valley's Town Square during ski season, the popular Christmas Eve services, and the exceptionally popular Easter Sunrise Services at the mountain top at Waterville Valley Resort.  More than 250 people regularly attend the sunrise service.

In March 2008, after consulting with the residents, guests, the WV Ski Area, and the Town Square businesses, it was determined that many residents, guests, and businesses wanted New Life Church of the White Mountains to hold regular worship services for all denominations.  Pastors Shirley and Dave and the church agreed to establish the church in Waterville Valley.

In July 2008 outdoor Sunday church services began and were held beside Corcoran's Pond in Town Square. It is quite inspirational to worship while viewing the magnificent mountains God has created.

Our Story...

During the first year of the church (2000-2001), services were held in the Marcroft's home.  A Steering Committee was established to guide the formation of the church.  Members of that committee came from area churches, a church in MA, and from the American Baptist Churches of VT and NH.  In April of 2001, the first public worship service was held on a Saturday evening at the Ashland Baptist Church.  We quickly outgrew that space and needed to find a larger building.  A perfect location in was found in downtown Plymouth.  NLC-WM renovated the former Blue Seal Feeds building in downtown Plymouth and met there.  Worship services were held on Sunday mornings.

Invited to Campton: Understanding the importance of money being spent mainly on helping people and outreach (instead of paying a high rent), the church accepted the invitation of the Campton Baptist Church to come to Campton, NH, and to use their church's auditorium / dining hall for a meeting place. Worship services were held there for 2 years.

Ministries in Campton:  We developed three large community ministries: New Life Thrift Shop, a food pantry,  and a community youth program / ministry for the area.

In June 2004, New Life Church of the White Mountains outgrew the space at Campton Baptist Church. We moved to the Campton Corners Shopping Plaza.  Ministry flourished in this location.

1 1/2 years later, a NH State Liquor Store wanted to rent space in the shopping plaza.  Current NH laws forbids a liquor store from being located within 200 feet of a school, church, or house of worship.  The church, community youth programs,  and the popular thrift shop were forced to move out of the plaza.   On January 14, 2006 the church, thrift shop, food pantry, and youth ministries relocated to a metal warehouse building on Owl St. in Campton.

On March 5, 2008 the building the church rented at Owl St. collapsed from the heavy snow weight on the roof.  After waiting almost two months for the snow to melt off the roof, the building was declared "safe".  3/4 of the building was destroyed.  God protected the portion of the building that was rented by New Life.  Most of the roof remained intact over the church, thrift shop, and food pantry.  In late April, we were finally able to enter the building, see the destruction, and reclaim those items which were left undamaged by the looters and the weather.  The building has been demolished by the owner. The church was invited to be established in Waterville Valley.
